What is Art Psychotherapy ?
Art Psychotherapy uses the creative arts, storytelling and play to facilitate growth and transformation within a safe and facilitating environment. Unlocking the imagination of the mind's landscape leads to multiple potentialities and offers us a panoramic perspective on our lives. Art can access our unconscious and help bring repressed emotions to light. Psycho-dynamic Art Psychotherapy focuses on the unconscious processes of therapeutic art making, where the client’s projections of their internal world onto the therapist can be worked through, and made conscious. The therapist-client relationship is key in this process. Shamanic and Buddhist methods of visualizations and working with different archetypal vibrations of our collective psyche through image, sound and movement deepen the spiritual dimension of this process in embarking on this elemental journey into your heart to connect and step into your true and authentic self. This process leads to moment to moment awareness and thus feeling empowered and whole again - being present in connection and alignment with mind, body and spirit.
Who is suitable for Art Psychotherapy?
Art Psychotherapy focuses on the relational creative process and connects each one to their creative source within, which is ultimately our life force and within each of us if we allow ourselves to connect to it. Everyone has this creative potential - our wild nature within - which is yearning to be unlocked. This can express and manifest itself in various forms - from painting, drawing, sculpting, dancing, singing, cooking and many other forms of creating. The process is to find this creativity, play and joy in simple being within every day's mundane routines and within your relationship to yourself and to others.
